Never heard of BT Urruela?

BT Urruela is a combat wounded amputee, Purple Heart recipient, contemporary author who has written both independent and traditionally published books. He is a RARE under 40 award recipient, Rockwood Summit High School and Rockwood School District Hall of Fame inductee, Co-founder and Brand Ambassador for VETSports, Ambassador for Tampa Sports Academy, People Magazine Tribute for Heroes winner, Cover Model, Motivational Speaker and Philanthropist.

At an early age he began writing short stories having been inspired by reading books authored by RL Stein. His maternal grandmother’s bookshelf was filled with literature that inspired his young mind and cultivated his vivid imagination.

Upon graduation from high school his desire to have a 20-year military career was cut drastically short by an improvised explosive device. Taking the life of his commander, and leaving the remaining four team members badly wounded.

After careful consideration and multiple surgeries, he along with the guidance of his doctors made the decision to amputate. It was the only surgery he ever left with a smile on his face, as if a weight had been lifted. He struggled for two more years through 4-5 hours of physical therapy a day, five days a week to get adapted to his new prosthetic. He medically retired from the Army with high hopes. His focus on restoring his physical shape being the most eminent battle caused him to neglect his psychological state.

Meeting people was difficult and there were very few options for veterans to utilize that would stimulate friendship, and ultimately, allow communication barriers to be breached. After moving to Tampa, Florida, he co-founded the veteran community sports nonprofit, VETSports, with two other combat wounded veterans. It was their mission to change the way veterans transitioned back to civilian life through organized team sports, community involvement, and leadership opportunities.

After being invited to attend a photoshoot with acclaimed photographer Michael Stokes, he flew to California in December of 2014, with incredible excitement. His photos were so widely publicized that he soon gained exposure to the literary world like he’d always dreamed of. That opportunity launched him into his present writing career. He co-wrote the novel 'A Lover's Lament’ with author KL Grayson. The following year he released first solo novel, 'Into the Nothing' and this year released ‘Wicked Little Words’ with author Stevie J. Cole. His second solo novel ‘Into the Blood’ will release late 2016.  He is now writing full-time.

First Published Book

My Life in Motion Pictures: 30 Famous Quotes for Day-to-Day Life - Kelsey E. Mecher, R. L. Wentzloff

Yes.  It is true.  This is MY book.  My first published book.  I wanted to give writing a try and I fell in love with it.  I enjoyed writing this book and I felt like getting it published just to see what people think of it.

Here is a synopsis of the book:

My life is surrounded by movie quotes. Everywhere I go, everything I do, I am quoting movies. Movies have had such a huge impact on my life that I want to share it with the world. A writing challenge called NANOWRIMO made that possible. A challenge where you have to write for 30 days in the month of November and you will have the makings of your very own novel. I couldn't think of what to write until someone reminded me of my love of Movie Quotes. That started the madness which is called writing. I took 30 famous quotes from movies of all genres and applied them to my life. How can I use the quote from P.S. I Love You? How does it impact my life? How can it help yours? These are questions that I try to answer with the help of quotes from famous movies said by famous actors and actresses. I hope these quotes help you as they have helped me!

Someone left a review of my book on Goodreads and I thought I share it with you on here:

One of the things I love about Goodreads is that it has been a huge help in exposing me to unique books and authors and lifting the curtain on new subjects and genres. My Life in Motion Pictures is a great example of this. A narrative centered on a group of terrific movie quotes is certainly uncommon, to say the least.

The chapters, which revolve around a topic raised by a quote, were written in consecutive days during the entire month of November. That was the first thing that impressed me about this book – it was written in one month. Anyone who has ever written anything of length would agree that such an accomplishment would take a great deal of tenacity and determination.

Following a journal style format, the author covers a wide range of topics, such as: the effects of social media, family interactions and relationships in general, men’s and women’s roles in society, the responsibilities of adulthood, small town life, and, of course, movies.

It was an extremely unique, humorous, and entertaining read. I hope the author sticks with it and produces more!

Hope you will take a look and check out my book :)

TV Show Castle's Nikki Heat Book

Heat Wave - Richard Castle

Ladies, what would you do if I told you that the most handsome man on the whole planet will spend three glorious weeks with YOU at YOUR house? And all you have to do is make yourself a pot of jo, relax in a hammock, and of course slip on something comfy but sexy as well and the best part is you don’t have to be on a reality TV show, or sign up for an adventure cruise that would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. It’s free. It’s hot off the presses. And he is the answer to all of your dreams. Ladies, I give you the one man that can actually make my heart do the tango: Richard Castle and his new book Heat Wave.

Yes, I understand that Richard Castle is a fictitious character in the new hit show Castle that premiers Monday’s at 10pm on ABC, but come on! It’s Nathan Fillion. Who doesn’t like a “rugged, good-looking” man on TV these days, and Nathan Fillion is doing a superb job filling in those shoes, am I right or what?  If you have not had the pleasure of seeing the show Castle, then you will need to borrow a friends TV, borrow their cable network and watch every Monday at 10 to understand my feelings (or you can also come into the library, go on YouTube and watch the shows on there for free). If you were fortunate enough to watch Castle, bless you. Still, why the reason of telling you ALL of this when I should be writing about a book that I read?

That famous writer Richard Castle based his novel Heat Wave on the proud, the few, the NYPD.

In Heat Wave, Detective Nikki Heat and journalist Jameson Rook are in charge of investigating the over-the balcony murder of a major Manhattan real-estate developer. As suspects start to pile up, things get a little complicated as people aren’t what they seem, even the victim.

So, how to bottom-line this one?

It’s a who-dunnit, suspenseful storyline with one other overpowering twist to it – romance. The play back and forth between the two characters, Heat and Rook, is fun and unforced, often less predictable than the mystery they’re pursuing.

So come to your local library and follow Heat and Rook through the streets of Manhattan and figure out if the butler did it.

But remember, “It’s like a mystery novel, you don’t just go to the last page do you?”

Big Little Lies Review

Big Little Lies - Liane Moriarty

Lies generally serve a purpose.

To save someone from harm. To make one look better to their peers. To get out of a jam.

When we were children, we were always told to NEVER tell a lie. You would get into so much trouble if you told a lie as a child. I for one remember the punishments for lying.

As you got a little older you found out there others have lied to you before...but it's okay. It was just a white lie...which to our understanding THAT lie was to save us from harm.

Then we grew up. One lie after another. But it's okay. We are now adults, so we can tell big lies. We just tell the kids it's a white lie and that they shouldn't lie at all. (And we get away with it.)

Well, sometimes we can get away with them.

A group of parents are getting ready to take their kids to school. A few moms stick together like before; a few new mothers are in town needing guidance. First day of school can be hectic, but once you deal with the cliques; getting the kids ready the rest of the day should go easy as baking a pie.

Apparently someone forgot to set the timer on that pie for it just burned!!

A child is accusing another child of bullying; teachers get worried, want it solved right away so saying your sorry is in order. But, the child in question says it wasn't him. As any parent would do they stick up for their child. Of course other Mom's don't agree with that policy and name calling gets thrown out into the air, and people start having opinions of others (especially if they are new to the town) and start gathering in their cliques to force others to choose: Truth, or power.

It isn't easy for Jane to be new in town and trying to understand the small town antidotes but when her son is accused of bullying and she fully well knows he didn't do it, it just takes the cake. Good thing she became good friends with a woman wouldn't shouldn't be reckoned with. Madeline has been there, done all that even had a divorce. She knows the in's and out's of the small town and knows everyone and everyone knows her. Even though she used to part (or known) the cliques, she sides with the new girl. Helps her out of jams once in a while. Of course she doesn't do this alone, she has help from her friend Celeste.

A woman who has everything: wonderful, handsome husband and two loving boys. She has a wonderful house, beautiful looks, great clothes. Everyone marvels on how she can handle twin boys and always being there for the school/church activities. But we must ask ourselves...do we really know our neighbors? Or do we see what we are supposed to see?

Lies are like a domino effect: once one gets going, it gets tough to stop them from growing. But also like in domino's, somehow, somewhere the domino's stop falling. How would you like the domino's to stop thought is the question? Towards you? Or something more sinister?

Cowboy and Willis Review

Cowboy and Wills - Monica Holloway

“Mr. and Mrs. Holloway, I have some news concerning about your son.”

When a parent hears this from their doctor, they know right away something is wrong. At first you don’t want to hear it. You don’t want to accept that there could possibly be anything wrong with your child. Yes, he may show some signs of being too clingy, he’s terrified of strangers, won’t look you in the eye, and a simple bubble bath is an excruciating experience, but there can’t be anything seriously wrong with him, it’s just….HIM. But when the Doctor confirms that your son has Autism, and that it is a “lifetime affliction” that there is no cure, it changes your life forever. The first thing that usually pops into a mother’s head is “How am I going to do this? What can I do to help my child? Will he ever know how much I love him?” Monica Holloway is lost in trying to find these answers for herself, but because of her unconditional love to her son she wants to make his transition to life smooth.

It is a memoir of an unconditional love of a mother whose son has autism. Monica Holloway has read all the books; she read all the forums on the internet; she knew that some way, somehow her son was going to be alright, was going to be able to see the world for what it is and not be afraid of it. Monica didn’t realize that with all the doctors in the world, it was the love from a puppy that would change her sons’ outlook on life.
The moment that her son was diagnosed, she went out to buy some fish to get Will interested in something. He seemed to be interested in the fish, in the hermit crab…a rabbit…a hamster and a sea turtle. Animals seem to keep her son stay in tune with life, and not crawl into his own shell. But with all those animals, Monica never imagined how much one Golden Retriever puppy would transform her son’s life….and hers. Because of her love for her son Wills, she bought him a Golden Retriever which Wills named her Cowboy. Cowboy is a female. She has blonde fur. While Wills not be able to look you in the eye, Cowboy would lick anybody close to her. Wills is in love. Where ever the dog went, Wills was sure to follow and vice versa. Wills wouldn’t leave the dog side for anything. And in turn, Cowboy showed that the big world that Wills is so afraid of isn’t so bad after all.

A memoir so rich, so unforgettable that had me reaching for tissues, that I know you all will love and cherish.

(I would like to dedicate this book to my cousin who has Autism.)

Matched Review

Matched - Ally Condie

Ever since working at the library, I have been open to many different genres of books, and the one section that I was very surprised to be reading was the Young Adult Section. Ever since I could read, I read from the Juvenile Section and then moved right into the Adult section. Missing the Young Adult Section entirely. I don't know but I just never really got into the Young Adult Books when I was a Young Adult. But now, that I have been working at a library, and working along side someone that is SOO into the Young Adult books, it's got me reading some of those books, some of those genres. And the one genre that really got me intrigued are the Dystopia books. The definition of Dystopia is a society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding. In other words, it means, that if something bad that would ever happen to America, the government will come right in and "take care of things" for you. Where the government will be responsible for EVERYTHING that YOU do in your LIFE!!!! In other words, Marshall Law will be in affect. And there is nothing that you can do. Now in these books, the author is showing you a world where this is already in affect for many many years and something happens to a young person that they actually open their eyes and see what their world has turned into and they must fight to get their country back on it's feet again and away from the government. The kids must be like 12-18 year olds and there is bloodshed and romance mixed into this just like this book.

Matched by: Ally Condie. A Dystopia book that has The Giver all written over. A young girl is set to be matched to her lover. She sees the picture of the man for her, but also sees a glitch in the system and sees yet another man; a man that should not be trusted; a man that the Society sees as a troublemaker and all who are associated with this man is also accused of trouble making. Yet, somehow, she can't stay away from him. As long as she's with Him she is led down a path that NO one thought of going and it will change her life forever.

An interesting book; a really good read.

The only problem is that there are so many of these dystopia books!! These young authors like telling the young adults about how the government could actually control you and your family and there is nothing you can do about but retaliate and there may be some lives lost but you might find love, or what may feel like love.

BLAH!!!

How about a book that shows kids what to LOOK for when the government is TRYING to take over and show kids on how to KEEP their constitution the way it is and teach them the legal way of keeping their world the way it is BEFORE the government takes over and tells you who to love, where to love and how many children you should have and what you should for breakfast every morning! That's Entertainment!!

Papa

When Father Is A Bad Word: Entering an intimate relationship with the Heavenly Father... - Dan Kuiper

Dad… Father… Papi… No matter how you say or spell it, the word father means male parent — a man who is respected like a father. Someone who is protective, kindly and warm. That definition is right out of the Oxford Dictionary. Father is a male person who is in charge of his children, protects them, guides them and shows his children what life will be like for them.

It is said that the man is the head of the household. He makes the choices for the family and everyone must abide by them. In many ways, children will look up to their father, try to be like him in many ways and love him unconditionally. For boys, he is their best friend, their guidance on how to be a man. For the girls, he is there to protect them from scary monsters, their shoulder to cry on and their first love. A father will always be there for his children — or at least he is supposed to be.

In this day and age, the word father doesn’t quite mean what it used to. Many children in this generation do not have a father figure at home. He’s either dead, working all the time or not even in the picture. In many situations it’s the latter.

For some time, my birth father wasn’t in the picture. He wasn’t always there at the dinner table, visitations on some weekends and occasional holidays. He wasn’t always there to protect, to guide. And I got to tell you, it was hard. And as a Christian, growing up without that, how can you look up to your Heavenly Father when your Earthly Father isn’t there for you? If your own blood father isn’t available 24/7 like they are supposed to, then how can your Heavenly Father be there as well?

My Dad, Warren, has proven to me that the Heavenly Father is always there to protect you, even if you can’t see him. That He always wants what’s best for us and will never leave us. Warren has been that kind of a father to me, and he isn’t even blood. But it’s not always blood that makes a family. It’s love. And who has better love for his children than God?

I’m never sure who reads these Recommended Reading articles, so I don’t know where you are spiritually, but I have no fear in saying I believe in God and know that he will always be there for me. A friend contacted me and told me of this new book that came out called When Father is a Bad Word by Dan Kuiper. It is a spiritual book talking about children having a relationship with their Heavenly Father and how some of those kids from broken homes question their belief in God. They question if he is ever really there when their own flesh and blood isn’t.

Kuiper comes from an abusive father, and Dan, through his suffering, found the love and the healing and the grace from one Father that will never leave him — God. In his book, he helps those who come from homes like he did and tries to strengthen their belief.

If you are looking for a spiritual book which describes what children go through in this day of age of broken homes or dysfunctional families and want to help them find that love and grace through God, then this is the book for you.

Fairy Tale Re-told

Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch - Disney Storybook Art Team, Serena Valentino

What happens to someone when they have been wronged by another? Usually we feel hurt. We feel lost. We get angry and try to get back at the other. But when they apologize for wronging you, you may be able to forgive but you will never forget what they have done. And it may ruin a good relationship, or you could move on and try to rekindle the love you have that other person.

Or you could have a heart full of rage and hatred that no matter what anyone tells you, you will have blood. Either their blood or someone close to them. But somehow, somewhere you will get your revenge and nothing will be sweeter.

That is the basis of The Sea Witch, Ursula. She was wronged all those years ago by humans for being different. She was tossed aside like she was nothing by her own brother. And now more then ever, she wants blood to exact revenge on those who wronged her. Doesn't matter who she uses, she'll kill them in the end. No matter who she hurts, no one could match her pain. She sees red, and the world better see it too.

Only problem: she wronged the wrong sisters.

There are three witches who are powerful, full of hate and can do wonders for anyone who has a villainous mind BUT there must be a reason. A reason for the hatred. Not just a feeling of "because I want to". No, there has to be a bloody well good reason for this kind of illicit hatred for them to help. But now that one of their own is missing, the three sisters feel lost and can't think straight. Ursula knows their pain and knows how to use it to her expanse. The three sisters go along with the her plan without question.

Till someone comes along and tells them Ursula's big secret. A secret that will answer the three sister's answers. A secret that could have been useful to Ursula but damaging to the sisters.

Now that the three most powerful sister witches know Ursula's secret and how she was going to use them, well let's just say they aren't very pleased.

Pleased to the point of ruining Ursula's big plan of revenge and stopping her from taking over the world in her hatred. Even allowing a princess....a PRINCESS mind you to get away with love...once again. But this time, the three sisters don't care. They care for one thing and Ursula tried to have her captured and killed. Not while the three sisters still live will they allow this.

Serena has done it once again with these fairy-tale re-tellings from the villains point of view. This time, Serena dives into the Little Mermaid story with the Ursula's point of view.

You poor unfortunate soul for not have read this yet.

The Island

The Island - Jen Minkman

It used to be that when you turn 18 you are able to leave your house and home and are called adult.

Now the Great Book states that when you turn 10, you are considered as an adult and can fend for itself.

At least that's how Leia and Luc was raised to believe. And now living on an Island, learning to survive the hard way nothing else should matter in the world. Get smarter, survive, marry and have children. That's the basis and nothing will change that.

Except for that Wall.

And the Fools. Fools are ones that believe that someone in higher power will take care of them, and believe in dreams. What such fools they are!!!

But then something happened. Leia actually meets with a Fool. And now the real question is, are the Fools what Leia has heard all her life or is she the fool?

Another interesting Dystopia book with a little twist in the end. I thought I wasn't going to like this book for the start of the book took a little longer than I'm used to and there were a lot of Star Wars langauge with talk about "The Force" "the Force is from the inside not the outside" Leia and Luc (Luke) and the whole thing about somebody other than parents raised Leia and Luc to understand their "Force". But I think if you never have seen Star Wars you would think this was just another Dystopia book where the kids believe that a system that has been in the works for generations needs to change now! Once again I thank Netgalley.com for letting me read this book a head of time and I hope this review answers some people's thoughts on this book!

Fans of Once Upon a Time show

Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty - Christine Heppermann

Once upon a time....

Those four words have sustained little girls all their live into believing that all they have to do is sing in the woods, be beautiful, courageous, have patience and be kind to others, you will have a wonderful happy ending and a most wonderful man in your life.

Then the little girls grow up to be hard working women in the hard world and found out that all those fairy tale stories were.....

WRONG!!!!!!!!!

You don't always get Prince Charming. You sometimes get his evil twin; his delusional cousin, and lazy nephew but some hardly ever see Prince Charming. Also it's kind of hard to be kind to others when they are not kind to you...patience have left the building and will never return....some don't live in the woods and you really don't want that woman to sing....courageous is frowned upon in this world and what really is beautiful anymore?

Christine Heppermann sees what real young girls have to go through everyday and it's not all fairy-lovey-dovey stuff. So instead of showing fairy tales, Christine shows them what really happens in the world to young adults. What really is out there and what we woman can do about it. Sometimes we have to be shown the truth...no matter how much it might hurt us, it will make us stronger.

If you loved fairy tales as much as I, then you definitely need to read this book.

Why We Can't Wait - Martin Luther King Jr.

Why We Can't Wait - Jesse Jackson, Martin Luther King Jr.

“No person has the right to rain on your dreams.”

“Science investigates; religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge, which is power; religion gives man wisdom, which is control. Science deals mainly with facts; religion deals mainly with values. The two are not rivals.”

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

And the famous......

“I Had a Dream....”

And can never forget.....

"Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty we are free at last."

If you don't know the voice to these quotes then you need to either go back to school or locate your library as quick as you can. The visionist who, with courage, spoke these words to the ears of every person on the planet. Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. as you know is well known for his speaking for civil rights movement in the time when folks didn't "get along well with other" because of the skin color. Back in the day it was unheard of for White folk and Black folks could be seen together in a public place; for them to sit casually in a resturant and just eat breakfast. Today...we hardly ever have this problem. Kids in school can understand what their teachers mean by "segregated" "racial differences". To fully understand what really happened back in the day, what took place and how the "people" felt it's always best to go to a non-fiction book. And I, as your librarian, have the perfect book for the young minds that are trying to understand who, what, where when and the why. Why We Can't Wait by the man himself, Martin Luther King Jr.

Why We Can't Wait talks about the Birmingham, Alabama (which was well known as the most racially segregated city in the United States at that time) druing the 1963 which was a very crucial year for the civil rights movement. King demonstrated with many other outspoken people to the world the power of nonviolent direct action by examining the history of the civil rights struggle and the tasks that furture generations (like us) must accomplish to bring about full equality.

The other reason why this book is perfect for young minds trying to understand what went on during that time frame is that Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote most of this book was written along with a "Letter from Birmingham Jail" King wrote in April of 1963. Trying to get inside the mind of one of the great outspoken leaders of our time? Try your local library and ask about Martin Luther King Jr. You might find something you weren't even looking for!!!

I only read this book because a patron kept pestering me to read it. We didn't have these series on the shelves so she would MelCat them and every time she comes in, she told me to read these books. She said if I want a clear start on these series, then start with this book.

Now, to be quite clear, I have NEVER, and I mean N.E.V.E.R read any kind of books like these. I mostly read adventure books, sci-fi books. Yes it had a little mention here and there about sex, it had about kissing, but never to this degree. And I have to tell you:

OH....MY....GOD!!!!!!!

This book in particular mostly because he really was a Sex God trapped into a book and only let out by some woman chanting some chant and that's all he does...have sex with a woman for 30 days and 30 NIGHTS!!! When's my birthday again?!

The one thing I liked about this book (and there were several, but) was that Grace looked beyond the hard taught muscle, the gorgeous eyes and the straight face of a man who would love her till their "session" was over, and saw a troubled man who needed help and protection. And it takes a very strong woman to fight a two thousand year curse. And Grace was that woman.

Kind of makes you think...could I do that? Say no to a strong, amazingly handsome man that will make your dreams come true for nothing? Yea...I think I would try and help him get free from being a slave and set him free. Of course, there are a few nights there...no I'm not going to go there!! I can't. (I'm at work!!)

Star Trek

Star Trek I: The Motion Picture - Gene Roddenberry, Alan Dean Foster, Harold Livingston

"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mision: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before." -Captain James Tiberius Kirk. The first time you heard that statement, you were just a kid, watching Star Trek: the Original sereis on TV Land. Well, now you can have the joy of reading the most accelerating series there is. The man, who created Captain Kirk and all other Star Trek characters, puts them all together again here in his first Star Trek novel!

Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty and all the crew have scattered to other jobs or other lives. Now they are together again on a fabulously refitted USS Enterprise and going to explore the system again. But now an alien force has treatened Earth and the human race, and the crew must venture out into the deep space to meet the challenge. As they try to discover the nature o their "thing" which is a huge and deadly cloud that keeps coming nearer and nearer to Earth...

Gene Roddenbery describes the hopes and also the fear showing in every crew member that he alone could bring out. If you love Star Trek, this is a book or you. If you aren't familiar with Star Trek, then this great book will suck you tino its world.

Enjoy: "Live Long and Prosper."
