New take on the Jurassic Park

The Great Zoo of China - Matthew Reilly

Scientist has always tried to outdo each other. Trying to find a cure for everything and anything. If someone says it CAN'T be done scientists want to try and prove that they CAN. Of course, sometimes it shouldn't be done in the first place but most scientists won't look at that aspect of things. If it can be remade, it should be made.

I believe Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park movie said it best when he stated: "...the problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it." And that is the problem with most scientists today.

But what if.......what if scientists were able to accomplish something so great? Who are we to stop progress? We love to invent things, we love to see things come back alive, so who are we to stop it from becoming something so real, so alive? And if they did so make it real, so alive why shouldn't they share it with the rest of the world? The world has the right to know of all things and they should be able to partake in the enjoyment of something so alive.

What could go wrong?

China has been keeping a big secret from the world for over 40 years. Even from their own. Some think it's bombs. Some think it's just a training facility. Some think it's just another tourist attraction like Disney World. China has always tried to be a step ahead of it's Western neighbors and a grand tourist attraction would be great. But for it to make the final step, the officials at this "secret attraction" they have enlisted a few American officials, a few American scientists and even an expert of reptiles. Why these kind of people and why show their "secret attraction" now? Well, like any great scientists they have to boast about what they have invented. As the new arrivals show up they can't believe what they are seeing. It's just to surreal, it's hard to imagine anything like this could ever have been created.

That's when everything goes south and they start to ask themselves why in God's name was this created?

Interesting that scientists don't ask these questions before actually making things!

If you are a lover of the blockbuster Jurassic Park, than this is the book for you!!!!!!!

Please Look After Mom

Please Look After Mom - Kyung-sook Shin

What is a Mother?

A mother is there to protect her children. She is to make sure that they learn the fundamentals of life, but also know that she will protect them whenever they need. She will feed them; clothe them; kiss their boo-boos; and scare away monsters underneath the beds. That is why Mother's are here. To comfort the kids.

But who is there for the Mothers?

Yes there are the husbands, but more times than we can count, the husbands need looking after and that's another chore for the Mom's to do. Women have sort of picked up on that role many years back.

Kids don't realize it till their Moms are getting older or have passed away and by then it's too late for them to take care of their Moms.

So what happens when kids leave the house? How about the husband? Who will then take care of Mother? She's still a human being...she needs a shoulder to cry on once in a while too!

Please look After Mom is a story like no other. This story showcases all family members and their thoughts and remembrance of Mom when Mom goes missing in a busy Seoul Subway station. As they reminisce of their mother you find yourself reminiscing about your own mother.

Think of all the times your mother stood by you no matter what. Think of the times YOU said some things to her and as you were walking away you heard her say "I Love You". Have you said that to her? What have you done to repay those nasty things you didn't mean to say to her?

Who's going to look after Mom when the kids are gone?

What if on 11/22/63.......

11/22/63 - Stephen King

Picture this: It’s 1963.

The stage is set.

It’s a beautiful morning in Dallas, Texas.

The birds are singing at the top of their lungs. The sky is the bluest Texas is gonna give ya. It’s 71 degrees out and a little windy. People are scurrying around like nobody’s business. People are getting ready for their Thanksgiving preparations. Families are having the time of their lives spending it with one another. On Elm Street, downtown Dallas, thousands of people are standing, sitting on the sidewalks waiting — just waiting.

Cameras are out. People are milling around waiting for something to happen while millions more are at their homes watching, “As the World Turns.” Everybody seems to be enjoying themselves. With the exception of one man. A man that could change the world like it has never been changed before. Everything is riding on this one man. Will he or won’t he do it? At 12:30, he made his decision.

CBS news interrupted the soap opera, “As the World Turns” with Walter Cronkite’s voice stating this: “Here is a bulletin from CBS News. In Dallas, Texas, three shots were fired at President Kennedy’s motorcade in downtown Dallas. The first reports say that President Kennedy has been seriously wounded by this shooting.” Then: “From Dallas, Texas, the flash — apparently official — President Kennedy died at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time, 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, some 38 minutes ago.”

Today is November 22. The year again is 1963. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was killed by the hands of one man in Dallas, Texas. The world mourns over the loss of a great man. For 48 years, we have mourned the death of a great president, and we will always remember what happened on that horrific day.

Present Day: It’s 2011.

The stage is set.

It’s a clear crisp day.

The world is spinning. The ground beneath their feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour. And the entire planet is hurtling around the sun at 67,000 mph. Until it all stops. Dead. Nothing is happening. Well, for one man, it may feel like it is. For this one man has made a decision. A decision that could result in good or it could turn out bad for the whole world and for the rest of their lives. He has asked himself four questions — Is it really possible? What if something goes wrong? What kind of change would it give the real world? And, Is it worth it? Who wouldn’t want to change history? Make it better, make it more pristine. One man has that chance. One man could make it all different in just two minutes. If you have found out that there is a time portal in one’s pantry and no it is not a Big Blue Box that travels anywhere, but a staircase where you can go to Sept. 9, 1958, and always that date, and has the chance of changing the most horrific event in history, would you do it? Stephen King did. Well, with a little help from Jake Epping of course, but he has been to the past and what a decision he must make. Jake Epping just found out that he could not only go back in time and change the course of that year, but also the life of John F. Kennedy. He could save the man from dying and he could change the outlook of life for the people. The grandmaster of storytelling invites you to go down the rabbit hole with him and blend history and fantasy to see if something could have been done. A must read!!!

Hounded

Hounded - Kevin Hearne

You walk into an occult bookshop.

You see a young man working there and the first thing you think of is he must be here working for his folks or family members trying to save money for school. Girls will just think he's a cute boy and maybe see him in school sometime. He wouldn't harm a fly, and he's a nice innocent boy.

Of course you would think this mostly because your human and you believe everything you see.

But you don't see that the iron bars on the windows are not just for hoodlums but also Fairy hoodlums; or that the boy is not really a boy and can fight ten men at once and can hold his own. Of course if an evil warlord was after him your would think he would run and hide....think again!!

Dear Mr. Knightley

Dear Mr. Knightley - Katherine Reay

When the real world becomes too much, or if the real world starts taking things that you love away from you what do you do? Fight against it? Go with the flow? Or would you retreat and hid in a shell? Sometimes it helps when you’re down to have someone there to talk to. To be able to release some of the tension that builds up from too much stress. For some there just isn’t anybody to talk to, like Samantha Moore in the book “Dear. Mr. Knightley” who didn’t have anybody to talk to. No family, hardly any friends, except her fictional characters from her favorite Jane Austin, Charles Dickens books. To Samantha, Elizabeth Bennett, Emma Woodhouse and Fitzwilliam Darcy (or Mr. Darcy) they were her heroes. These characters that have faced tough times in a tough world always had something to say, some type of advice that became the voice for Samantha. But it gets kind of boring when the conversation is one sided.

So when an opportunity of a life-time comes along to go to one of the greatest Journalism colleges with Full Tuition all paid for with one perk: write letters to the anonymous benefactor who calls himself “Mr. Knightley” about Samantha’s progress. To be honest, Samantha was quite skeptical about writing letters to a complete stranger plus she is to never receive letters back. At the start, Samantha almost doesn’t go through with it. But once she found that writing to someone, voicing her days and progresses in school, actually helps her release her tension about school and about life as well seems to bring her out of her shell and be able to face the real world with her OWN voice. Not Elizabeth Bennett’s voice or Mr. Darcy’s voice speaking for her, for this time she’s speaking from her own experience, her own voice and Samantha has found that her voice has something special to say to those around her.

Only question is, is the world ready to hear Samantha’s voice?

A wonderful story about a young woman who all her life lived through tragedy found comfort in her books and stayed hidden for so long she forgot how it feels and mean to live in the real world until an unknown benefactor helps her find her voice through actual letters. Not email, not instant text messages, not even Facebook was what she needed. The actual form of writing letters, mailing them day after day is what helped Samantha come out of her shell. When I was little, my hero at that time was my big brother, Rich. He was always ready for whatever the world tossed at him and always curious of what the world could offer him. He was super excited that his little sister was just as curious as he was, so what does a big brother to do? Send advice, give encouragement and since he lives in another state, letters is how we stayed connected. And we still do to this day. A little Postcard, or a quick letter here or there and that’s how we helped each other get through the hardships that life brought us. If you find that someone who could help you, or haven’t seen/talked to for a while, write a letter to them. You never know, they (or even you) might be living like Samantha Moore, hiding in their shell. You never know. Check out “Dear Mr. Knightley” at your local library.

Nightmares! Series

Nightmares! - Jason Segel, Karl Kwasny, Kirsten Miller Nightmares! The Sleepwalker Tonic - Jason Segel, Kirsten Miller, Karl Kwasny Nightmares! The Lost Lullaby - Jason Segel, Kirsten Miller, Karl Kwasny

Book One

Nightmares is something everyone has had. Whether you are young or old, you once had a nightmare that you just couldn't shake off. Sometimes it's just the one nightmare, sometimes it's a trilogy. Sometimes, however, it stays with you for days, weeks, even months. You are either falling into a dark abyss; a clown is chasing you; failing a test that is coming up. But the main thing to remember is that these are just nightmares.....they only occur during the night, during sleep. Once you wake up, those nightmares are gone.

Or so Charlie Laird believed so.

Charlie believed like everyone else, that nightmares aren't real, and that they only occur during sleep time. That is until he started having the same dream over and over again ever since moving into the purple mansion which he believes have caused the nightmares to escalate.

Of course everyone assures him that the nightmares aren't real.

Jason Segel shows you how with the help of Charlie and his friends. A wonderful, helpful story for kids and yes even adults who have terrible Nightmare that they just can't shake off.

Book Two

"Go to sleep my baby rock-a-by
Mama's gonna sing you a lullaby

Go to sleep sweetie and dream in peace."

This is normally how most people get their kids to sleep. They sing a little lullaby, they rock the baby's in their arms, they read a story....whatever it takes to get their children to sleep.

That is until the children and the adults start seeing eyes in their dreams that have turned into nightmares?

And what if all those great techniques, don't work anymore? How are you going to get your child to sleep when even you yourself can't sleep? And what if you do start sleeping and those eyes.......

Well then try out this new tonic from the next town over. You will feel wonderful trust us!!! You will be able to never dream of those eyes ever again!!!! (Of course, you will NEVER dream again and you will turn into a Zombie which is sort of the point)

Charlie and his friends are at it again, trying to save a town from Nightmares....but this time the nightmare isn't from the Gateway. It's mixed in a Tonic that the people have been drinking and can't seem to come out of their Zombie phase.

How do you wake people up when they are too afraid of the Reality? How do you stop something when you can't feel it?

Man Called Ove

A Man Called Ove - Fredrik Backman

Ove is a deceptively complex character.

At first, he seems almost caricature-like in his crankiness. He wants things in order...if there is a sign that has rules on it, one should pay attention to it and follow it to the letter. He is set in his old ways and when those ways are changed by anything new, he gets upset...very upset.

But as his history is skillfully revealed, layer by layer, it’s clear that he’s a lonely soul longing for connection. He’s an innately good person, and his peculiar outlook on life is often laugh-out-loud funny. But to him it's a way of life. One that should be followed by everyone.

But there are things about Ove that will upset you. Well, they certainly upset me. When you delve more into his back story you see a whole other side of Ove that you just want to reach into the book and hug him. Of course, he would shrug you off the moment you try, but the feeling will always be there. The love and devotion that this angry man had will cut you to the quick.

When Ove meets his new neighbors things start to change in his life. He thinks it's for the worst, but as he starts to see things from another perspective, you start to see a change. In Ove yes, but in you as well.

There are a couple of quotes I would like to share with you that really got to me:

"People said Ove saw the world in black and white. But she was color. All the color he had."

"Ove had never been asked how he lived before he met her. But if anyone had asked him, he would have answered that he didn’t."

"We always think there’s enough time to do things with other people. Time to say things to them. And then something happens and then we stand there holding on to words like “if”."

Fangirl

Fangirl - Rowell. Rainbow

Have you ever liked something so much that you wish it would never end?

How about a TV show? Where you get so immersed in the characters that you just want their story to continue? Or maybe change the story to your liking?

Then welcome to FanFiction!! Where all your dreams CAN come true....you just have to write it. The cool part is many times people think they are the only ones that feel they way they do about a certain character or story and they just hid in their little shell when really there are hundreds of other people feeling the same way as you do. FanFiction can help you get out of your shell and meet other people that think just like you do, or better!!! And if other people don't like what you come up with, FanFiction helps you grow stronger about yourself and your ideas that you don't care what others think.

FanFiction is all Cath can think about. She wakes up in the morning..."gotta go on FanFiction", at school..."gotta write for FanFiction". Her room is covered in FanFiction memorabilia. But she's really good at it. Hundreds and thousands of fans log on everyday to see what else she has written about. She's a sensation.

Now if only she can put those words that she writes on paper to her mouth in reality.

Cath is very shy around other people. She doesn't react real to them, unlike her sister. Sometimes it's okay, she can just slink back into her room by herself and jut write.

Well, Cath is now in College. Goodbye privacy!!! Cath is totally out of her comfort zone and her sister Wren wants to move on with her life and leave FanFiction all together which Cath thinks it's a sin.

What's Cath going to do now? She doesn't really want to do this alone and whenever she tries to meet new people it just becomes a total disaster.

As long as she has her Simon Snow FanFiction to keep her alive. But even that seems to start coming to a head. For the books that made Simon Snow popular is finishing up...will her FanFiction too? What will she do afterwards? And can she really finish college on her own with no help what so ever?

A great story about a girl growing into a woman with the world watching her every move. And it just happens to be in College...GREAT!!!!

Walter Mitty

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - James Thurber

Meet Walter Mitty.

He's a Husband.

He's a Captain of a Navy ship

He's a toughest man on the trial

He's the man who can a woman from distress and is a hero to all man kind.

He's also worrying his wife, his co-workers, his boss and his shrink.

Walter Mitty has dreams. Dreams of being a hero. But he's not dreaming them in bed, like everyone else is. He's dreaming these events while driving, while shopping, talking to his wife, walking down the street. He "sees" himself as a hero to everyone, but doesn't really do anything about it. He's just your average Joe that is taking his wife to get her hair done. And while she is getting her hair done, he runs errands. But everyday life, everything that we see, feel, touch, hear generates this scene in his head where he is the hero to the story and he's living it right then and there!! While everyone looks at him like he's weird, he doesn't see what wrong with this!!

As a writer I was thrilled that I am not the only person that this is happening too!!! I can't tell you how many times I will be sitting at the Library that I work at and there will be an event that will take place, or someone says something to me and it triggers a scene playing in my head and I'm living that story out (in my head of course). I am a writer and I am always getting scenarios playing out in my head that sometimes leave me speechless until I am writing that out in my laptop. Sometimes I talk out loud the scenes but hey, I'm a writer it's allowed. (I think....)

Magic Strings of Frankie Presto

The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto: A Novel - Mitch Albom

"All humans are musical. Why else would the Lord give you a beating heart?"

Since the dawn of time, people have used music for everything: a cry for battle; a victory after a battle; to sooth a crying baby; to uplift ones spirit; to showcase how much one loves another and so on and so forth. Music always has meaning. Even if it's just the sound of someone plucking an old guitar, there is meaning behind what we hear.

And to Frankie Presto, sound means more than what we hear.

Frankie Presto is a huge successful musician. Well, he was. Frankie just passed away in a weird unexplained death onstage at a concert. Interviews at the funeral of his friends, family and acquaintances about how they met Frankie and what part in their lives was touched by Frankie himself or of his music. Many believed that Frankie just had that touch. That gift of sliding from one note to the next with such fluid motion that only a few guitar players have.

What if it was more than that?

What if it wasn't just him playing the guitar?

What if the reason you are so touched by this, it's because there is more at play here than just one man?

Follow the interviews and follow Music as Music takes you through the life of Frankie

Presto and how he became the person everyone loved.
